“Every day [my students]

have to sit at the table for several hours and write ideas.”

Marina Abramović

“A career rooted in media and the arts has evolved through a multicultural lens, driven by a belief in the transformative power of cross-cultural dialogue and interdisciplinary creativity. Through a series of intenational projects, this journey has cultivated vibrant intersections of tradition and innovation, amplifying global perspectives with a focus on higher education.

JORDAN I Factory art hub launched “In the Margin Festival” at The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in Amman, showing the vision of multicultural exchange through projects that brought together Arab and Euopean artists. The emphasis was on exploring identity, displacement, and belonging through contemporary art, including installations, sparking conversations that transcended geographic and cultural boundaries.

MEXICO I Myths MX film/stage/arts event at Quinta Gameros museum in Chihuahua embodied a grassroots multicultural effort. Produced by Communication students, the event wove together film, dance, music, and poetry fostering a living dialogue between (European) classic mythologies and (Mexican) modern art-expressions, for the first time ever, in an emblematic heritage site in Northern Mexico.

CHILE I Transmedia workshop/performance by artist/professor Phillip Baldwin, from Stony Brook University (New York) at UPCC’s Arts/Science/Technology event, bridged cultures through collaborative technology. Upcoming artists from multiple disciplines co-designed an immersive performance that integrated transmedia, digital art, and live sound, resulting in a shared, borderless language of experimentation and storytelling.

SPAIN I Entramados arts/film event at UDIT (formerly ESNE) included an exploration on multiculturalism through the lens of cinema with focus on animation. Engaging students from diverse backgrounds, the initiative challenged them to draw from their cultural roots while experimenting with narrative forms that blended tradition, personal memory, and global aesthetics. International speakers attended.

MEXICO I The Barbaric Country website/arts (El País Bárbaro) created during Innovation Week at Tecnológico de Monterrey showcased how students from various degrees could build a cohesive artistic vision in just five days. It resulted in a digital platform with original content —design, film/media, photography, visual art, writing— on the idea of the “barbaric” (bárbaro/a) culture in Northern Mexico.

MEXICO I Family Tree film project, developed at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico State campus, invited students from a program connecting High School and University to confront and explore their family histories. This deeply personal and collective work tapped into Mexico’s rich cultural mosaic, sparking meaningful intergenerational dialogues and fostering empathy through non-fiction storytelling.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC I The Story of Colors dance/arts workshop/performance at Oné Respe NGO was a celebration of Afro-Caribbean identity and resilience. Combining dance, film, and visual art, this one-month workshop engaged local youth and New York instructors alike, using art as a tool to reclaim narratives and affirm cultural pride within a community-focused environment.” — PV

'Ecology of Souls'

In an interdisciplinary and multicultural spirit, ‘ecology of souls’ can be seen as a metaphor for the interconnectedness, interdependence, and mutual influence of diverse cultural and artistic expressions.
— Pedro Valiente

“An ecosystem is a geographic area where organisms work together to form a bubble of life. 'Ecology of souls,' leitmotiv that I use since New York Spin /2002), calls for a sense of community to build better futures.”

It suggests that art is a living, evolving organism shaped by the contributions of many, and that true creative expression happens when different ‘souls’ exchange in harmony, truly embracing diversity.

’Ecology of souls’ suggests the essence of nurturing both the individual and collective voices in the arts, and beyond. It fosters a space where deeper understanding and transformation can take place.
