My role at Espacio Cine included designing the program, directing its first two founding years (2005-2006), inviting international speakers, connecting national film schools and universities with Televisa, and securing international partnerships. In 2007, I was also invited to speak at the event.
— Pedro Valiente

Espacio Cine emerged at a time when Mexican and Latin American actors were making their mark in Los Angeles, directors were expanding their reach, co-productions were becoming increasingly popular, and film festivals were gaining prominence. Latin America was experiencing a surge in exceptional TV and film productions, and university students were showing a growing interest in the industry. New filmmakers were drawing attention with their impressive documentaries and short films. Rising talents like Alejandro González Iñárritu, Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro, Rodrigo Prieto, Emmanuel Lubezki, Gael García Bernal, and Diego Luna were gaining international recognition.

After spending ten years in New York, I moved to Mexico City, where I directed Espacio Cine at Televisa. During this time, I helmed two TV series, nearly thirty commercials, and a pilot for Fox Italy, created by Sergio Ortega, senior producer at Discovery Channel at the time. Additionally, a Televisa producer proposed the idea of launching a new international film festival in Mexico, an initiative I later went on to direct.” —PV

“ESPACIO introduced filmmaking to its program during its 10th Anniversary in San Luis Potosí. FILM WORKSHOP The excitement of filmmaking joined our event, historically centered around television and media. Out of 30,000+ attendees at ESPACIO, ESPACIO CINE attracted over 6,000 participants in just five days, with waves of people attending activities throughout the day. In addition to coordinating the program, I led a filmmaking workshop alongside TV professionals (Genaro de la Cruz, Roberto de la Garza, Sergio Aranzával, Miguel Ángel Amador) and film students (Luis García, Bruno Schauwecker). FILM PRODUCTION Alongside Celia Arvizu (who would later transition to the Morelia International Film Festival), I co-produced short films and 1-min films by emerging filmmakers, which were broadcast on Canal 5. FILM/TV/EDUCATION TV networks globally are not accustomed to collaborating with national film schools, and those schools rarely work with private universities. I bridged this gap by connecting major institutions for the first time in history: the giant TV network Televisa, national film schools (CCC, CUEC), the public university UNAM, and private universities (Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad Iberoamericana, Universidad Anáhuac). INTERNATIONAL I also fostered international connections, inviting the New York Film Academy to offer a scholarship, and bringing in prominent speakers such as Lucila Moctezuma, grants coordinator at The Rockefeller Foundation, and Carlos Gutiérrez, director of Cinema Tropical.” —PV

ON THE NET

[SPANISH] 06/05/06. […]
